Students work intensively in the Lookingglass style of play creation. Past themes have included responsibility, race, immigration, and education.Students combine research, interviews, and creative writing to construct an original piece for an open audience.

Lookingglass has staged more than 50 world premieres at 23 venues across Chicago, and garnered 39 Joseph Jefferson Awards and Citations. Lookingglass Originals have toured to New York, Los Angeles, Seattle, Berkeley, Philadelphia, Princeton, Hartford and St. Louis. The Lookingglass Theatre in Chicago's landmark Water Tower Water Works on Michigan Avenue opened in June 2003. In addition to developing and presenting ensemble work, Lookingglass Education and Community programs encourage creativity, teamwork and confidence by working with thousands of students each year.
